About UF Online


UF Online was founded in January 2014 in accordance with the 2013 Florida Statutes Section 1001.7065(4) which established the Preeminent State Research University Institute for Online Learning. UF Online arose as the University of Florida’s answer to this call to offer “high quality, fully online baccalaureate degree programs at an affordable cost.”

Melissa Allen

Director, UF Online


Melissa Allen has been a driving force in UF Online since the program’s inception. With more than 15 years in higher education, she is known for her transformative leadership style, commitment to operational excellence, and ability to inspire cross-functional collaboration. As director, Melissa oversees academic program management, student success, and strategic initiatives in online education. She leads cross-campus collaboration to enhance the student experience and elevate program quality. UF Online is consistently ranked among the nation’s top online programs in undergraduate education, a distinction that reflects the strength of its model and university-wide commitment. Melissa holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and Psychology from the University of Miami and a master’s degree in Communication from the University of Central Florida. She blends a people-first approach with system thinking to fuel consistent success.

Briana Roades

Associate Director, UF Online


Briana Roades has served UF Online for more than seven years, bringing over a decade of higher education experience to her role as Associate Director. She leads the launch and ongoing academic operations for UF Online, as well as initiatives for student belonging, community, and success. Known for her ability to connect strategy with execution, Briana partners with marketing, advising, academic colleges, and campus units to ensure a smooth, student-centered experience from enrollment through graduation. Her approach combines innovation, organization, and a human touch. She designs personalized, multi-channel outreach and strategic communication campaigns that build community, foster Gator pride, and connect students with the resources they need to thrive. She also has a strong track record in process improvement, data-informed decision making, and cross-functional collaboration. Briana holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Central Florida, along with a graduate certificate in Public Administration.
